Coral, Metallic and Polk Dots

Being able to attend local fashion events is always a blast, especially when in good company :) When my husband can't join me, I wander and meet up with friends along the way. A couple of weeks ago, I made my way to Chinatown to meet up with my friend Felix of Yuki and Bee so we could catch some of the shows at Vancouver Fashion Week.

Believe it or not, I'm a pretty shy gal...at first, but I've been trying to step out of my comfort zone and mingle with people I don't know. And what better place to practice that than a fashion show? Ha ha ha, I def went out of my comfort zone and after a while, I got the hang of it! Felix also introduced me to some of his friends that were also in attendance and we hit it off, they're some cool cats ;) Can't wait to hang out with them again, we had some good laughs!

Pretty dope how blogging has brought so many amazingly beautiful (inside and out) 'n  talented people into my life! Keep the adventures rollin'!

Nova Chiu at Vancouver Fashion Week

On the weekend I was able to hang out with some friends and catch the shows at Vancouver Fashion Week. One of my favorite presentations from Saturday night was Nova Chiu, a collection that "embodies elements from ethnic cultures from China, Canada and Europe concentrating on classic silhouettes from London and New York."

I absolutely loved all of the colours, textiles and prints in Nova Chiu's collection. I feel that Nova Chiu is a label that stands true to who they are as individuals, the Asian and European influences are clearly visible throughout. Each piece screams history and tradition of ethnic cultures from China with the prints and textures, while the cuts feel Eurpoean and modern. Oh, and the shoes...THE BOMB, I want 'em all!!!

What really made my heart melt was when Nova Chiu and her partner Jeff Archer came out hand in hand at the end of the show. It's really beautiful to see the art that partners can create with love, dedication and honour.

Vancouver Fashion Week SS13, Adios Videos.

About a month ago, I was invited to attend Vancouver Fashion Week (VFW) taking place at the Chinese Cultural Center. I was actually planning to upload several videos from the week long event that my husband shot and edited for NOTM. But unfortunately, the hard drive we had saved the videos on fell off our bed and went kaput. SO LAME!!!!

I'm pretty disappointed because I had 4 great segments from the first and last day of Vancouver Fashion Week SS 2013, including interviews I conducted in Spanish with Mexican designers Daniela Villa and Sofia Palmero.

Oh, and my interview with RACHEL ROY...gone. Bueno, there is still a little bit of hope that the videos may be saved. As I'm typing this, my husband is geeking out on the hard drive and re-installing a piece that was seriously damaged in the fall. I'm crossing my fingers and toes that it works. If not, then at least I have the memories, lol. Tik, tok, Tik, tok....

These photos are from the first day of Fashion Week Vancouver. Miraculously, I had these photos saved on my laptop, phew. Everything but my shoes was thrifted or a hand me down! Yup, even my vintage floral dress hehehe.

Just wondering, does anyone else have trouble finding cute heels at thrift stores? Or is it just me and my big foot feet? LOL. Seriously, I can NEVER find a nice pair of gently warn heels at thrift stores. That's why I allow myself to buy a pair (or two) of STAPLE shoes a year, if necessary.

Right, back to VFW, I wrote an article for Proyecto Moda about day one, please check it out here and let me know what you think.

I'm all over the place today, must be the cafe con leche :P

Vancouver Fashion Week Day 2

On March 22, 2012 I had the pleasure of accompanying my friend, Karen of Trendy Feeling to the second night of Vancouver Fashion Week. We met for coffee a few hours before the show, since it was the first time we were going to meet in person, and wanted to get to know each other a little better :) It was an instant click, and the more time we spend together, we find out that we have so many things in common, hehehe. Gracias amiga, por invitarme al show!

My favorite collections of the night were Francesca by Pamela Ordonez  (pictured above) for her simple, yet edgy ready to wear pieces.  And  Mackenzie Jones (pictured below) for their extravagant and edgy evening wear, plus the unconventional way the models danced down the runway, was breath taking. Mackenzie Jones takes the cake for best presentation, I was so entranced by not only the intricate detailing on the clothing, but the story that the models presented while elegantly dancing down the runway. It was definitely an amazing way to close the night.
