[Truth Tuesday #36]: Marrying into Family

[BANDALA-Me-MARS-MaTita]
It's true what they say, when you marry your partner, you also marry into a new family. Everyone hopes that they will be loved and accepted by their spouses family, especially when you get married...right? I know I did, and since the day I met Gabriel's immediate (extended too!) family they welcomed me with open arms; his sister and brother love me like a sister, and his parents love me like their own.

I'm blessed.

To my sils Monica, Mariana, and mother-in-law Tita thank you for loving me unconditionally, and always supporting me! The three weeks went by so quickly, who will I play dress up with (Moni)? Who will I drink a cafecito with while we watch Revenge (Ma Tita)? Who will I talk about the awesomeness of being married (Mars)?  Hehehe the memories we made together are on repeat during my day. I miss you so much.

Truth Tuesday [#35]: A miracle of Angels

Truth is, yesterday was full of Angels. In the morning, my mum, husband and I went to visit my grandma where her body was laid to rest, three years ago. I remember November 4th, 2009 like it was yesterday; the heartache, the tears, the frustration and her peace. I remember holding her hand, kissing her goodbye and whispering that she will always be on my mind, and present in my heart, no matter the distance. And it's true, not a day goes by that I don't think of her. I love to close my eyes, take a deep breath and feel her presence around me, especially when I am outside. Yesterday, November 4, 2012 marked three years since her passing. While visiting her we talked about how much we all used to laugh and dance together and how much we missed her... it's always tough saying Adios to her when it's time to depart.

Yesterday was a beautiful day, besides visiting my grandma, I received a text message from my God-sister saying she was in labour! So after a late lunch, the three of us headed over to the hospital to check in. While we hung out with my God-parents in the "delivery room" waiting room, a nurse rushed in asking for Carolina...and I quickly followed her into my God-sister's delivery room.

Wow. My God-sister gave me one of the greatest gifts that can be experienced, the privilege to witness birth. I was, and quite frankly, still am in awe of the whole experience. It is so surreal to see a precious little Angel come into this big, beautiful world. It is surely an experience I will remember forever. Thank you Sis+Mi+Li for letting me be a part of your family night.

Truth Tuesday [#34]: Blessed to welcome another year of life

26 years ago today, I was born into a beautiful family. I thank God everyday for the amazing parents that he blessed me with. I also thank him for allowing me to continue this journey of life with an abundance of health,  compassion, determination and most importantly, LOVE.

At 26, I can honestly say I've learned from the experiences I've grown  through. Thank you God, for giving me the this amazing gift of life; I promise to LOVE harder, LAUGH louder, and LIVE better. I'll cherish this gift til my last breath.

I'd also like to thank you for taking the time out of your busy lives, to check in on me; for always wishing me well and making me smile with your sincerely sweet comments. I look forward to another wonderful year of friendship, mil gracias.

Truth Tuesday [#33]: I love LA

Buenos Dias, we are back from LA! The above photos are from my instagram during our stay in the beautiful City of Angels.  Truth is, I've visited Los Angeles twice before, but this trip was very different from the ones before, for several reasons, which will be highlighted this week; Santa Monica, Disneyland and California Adventure, Downtown LA architecture, Places you must see/eat, and the Latina Lifestyle Blogger Confrence. :)

Truth Tuesday [#30]

Buenos Dias, I hope you are having a wonderful Tuesday!

My truth, I've always loved personalizing my items, but lately, I have been taking it to a whole new level. I am all about cutting, bleaching, dying and sewing these days, especially skinny jeans. I've gone so far as removing all of the skinny jeans from my closet and piling them in a corner, where they wait to morph into something else; a new identity.

The shorts in this outfit, were the first pair of skinny jeans to be put up on the chopping block! I had so much  fun doing this easy d.i.y, I think that's why I am currently addicted to altering my clothes! =) It's amazing how relaxing and therapeutic working with my hands can be....

Truth Tuesday [#29]

Truth is, I miss drawing! For months last year, I was consistent in practicing my drawing, made a series of my husband and I,  and had started to finalize some characters. Then I just let it go...

Well I can't  stop thinking about my illustrations and have finally decided take action. I bought a lovely leather recycled paper sketch book and some great illustration pens! :) I've developed some new characters within the last few days, and am so happy to be back in my drawing groove.

These are some of the illustrations I did last year:

Can't wait to show you some of this years characters :) Do you like to draw?

Truth Tuesday [#28]

“Lent is the time for trimming the soul and scrapping the sludge off a life turned slipshod. Lent is about taking stock of time, even religious time. Lent is about exercising the control that enables us to say no to ourselves so that when life turns hard of its own accord we have the stamina to yes to its twists and turns with faith and hope…. Lent is the time to make new efforts to be what we say we want to be.” - Joan Chittister (The Rule of Benedict: Insight for the Ages )

Truth is, the Holy season of Lent starts tomorrow, Ash Wednesday.

I am going to fast from sunrise to sunset, abstain from meat and attend mass in the evening.

Ash Wednesday is a day of fasting (for those between the ages of 18-60) and a day of abstinence from meat (for those 14+)

Lenten practices that I will be participating in:
  1. Attend Mass daily, if possible
  2. Make a good confession
  3. Abstain from meat all Fridays of Lent
  4. Attend the Stations of the Cross

Truth Tuesday [#26]

Truth is, my husband and I have decided to pull the plug on our love (and loyalty) for McEverything, ahahaha, SERIOUSLY. No more fast food chains for us! This is a big deal for us because we love going on dates for our Jr. Chicken, Double Cheeseburger and 2 small fries! Munching away, while reminiscing for an hour and a bit. A

But, after seeing that gross McDonald's "chicken" nugget paste photo and the photo of the McDonald's meal that has been out for year and looks the same, we had to cut the cord. We read a few articles on all the horrible chemicals that are in the processed food, and were disgusted. Since we cut McDonald's, we had to cut the rest of them out too! So far, it has been a week :)

Truth Tuesday [#25]

Truth is, I went for my breast biopsy yesterday. I was nervous, but thankfully, I had the support of my husband! He was at my bedside the whole time, holding my hand, and keeping such great eye contact with me! I got so lost in his beautiful eyes that I didn't pay much attention to the pain. And yes, it hurt, just the freezing part where they wiggled the needle around *cringe*

The technician and doctor were great, they both had very calm vibes. Their voices were gentle, warm and welcoming, which made me feel at ease. They talked me through the whole procedure, and asked me if I was ready before the two injections. The injections did not hurt, as my breast was numb from the freezing (this hurt), but I could feel a pressure that was uncomfortable.

My husband and I got to see the samples that they removed from the  tissue, pretty cool, right! They looked like fish bones and were about 4cm long.

Since the freezing wore off, I have been in a little bit of pain in that area. But, it is manageable, just have to toughen it out and put an ice pack on it. I will know the results from the biopsy in about a week, I am praying that it is nothing bad. Please, keep me in your prayers.

I am very thankful, for all of your warm comments regarding this experience. It is great to know, that I have a strong group of women who I can count on for support. It really means a lot. GRACIAS.

Truth Tuesday [#24]

Truth is, I'm going for a biopsy on my breast the second week of February. I've never had one before, and am anxious, nervous and scared. I don't like needles :/

Has anyone had a breast biopsy done before?
According to the American Cancer Society (2010), a breast biopsy is: taking out and testing tissue from the suspicious area of the breast. For more information on breast biopsy

Truth Tuesday [#23]

Buenas tardes [boo-eh-nas tar-dez=good afternoon].
It's that time of the week again, where we share one personal truth. Don't be shy, it can be any truth; big or small!

My truth is that I went to get an ultra sound on one of my breasts a few weeks ago. The doctor told me that there is a mass in my breast, but that I shouldn't worry because it is not cancer. But, then she told me she couldn't tell me the name of the mass, and that I would be able consult my personal physician to talk about my options; remove the mass, or continue to monitor it....

Truth is, I'm scared.

Truth Tuesday [#21]

For me, 2011 has been an amazing year, probably the best of the 25, so far. Some of my highlights include:

My Baptism, 1st Communion and Confirmation on Easter. Our weddings; the civil ceremony occurred on June the 4th on Bowen Island, BC and the religious ceremony that took place on November 11th, in Guadalajara, Mexico! Also, having our families meet, and see them act as one big family, was out of this world, amazing!!

End 2011 in a bang, why not try to make eye contact and smile at everyone who comes in your path? :) The barista at your coffee shop, the bank teller, the sales associate, the bus driver, your neighbour, the stranger walking past you on the street...You can make the sunshine on someone's gloomy day, and most likely, they will pass it along!

Truth Tuesday [#20]

Truth is...Never Say Never! After saying that I would never watch the Justice Beaver, I mean Justin Beiber movie, I did :/ It started with a "Oh, let me just see the first 5 minutes," then I just got sucked in, and apparently became a Belieber! Ahaahahaha, I learned my lesson, Never Say Never! :P

Truth Tuesday [#19]

I love going on dates, with my husband!
Last week, we went to for some yummy alitas (ah-lee-tas=wings) y (e=and)
cervezas (ser-vay-zas=beer) for dinner and later proceeded to a holiday activity!

We walked around the park, looking at the different Christmas light and displays, and even rode on a 15 minute miniature train around the bright lights. It was so romantic, we both had big smiles on our face and cuddled closely as the North breeze nipped at our face!

*What's your favourite thing to do during the holidays with your special someone?

Please leave your Truth Tuesday link, so I can check it out~And don't forget to enter the awesome Christmas giveaways!

Truth Tuesday [#18]

Laundry is the only thing that should be separated by color.  ~Author Unknown

I've encountered my share of racism over the years, and I just don't understand it. You shouldn't hate on me because of the languages I speak, the colour of my skin, or the slant of my eyes.

Truth Tuesday [#17]

Truth is, my husband and I want to be parents soon!
And we've decided to get pregnant sometime next year, so that the little angel will be born in 2013!

:)
