The Love Of A Mother

This is a guest post from Nikki Cochrane- www.onetinystarfish.blogspot.com

One of my first memories is of my mom scooping me up and kissing me. I can’t remember what had upset me, but I can vividly picture running into her arms and having my tears kissed away. In years to come, she would be the one to stay up with me when I was sick, help me with my homework, and take me to ballet lessons and soccer games. I never considered what my life would be like without her.

And yet, the reality is that around the world, many children grow up without their mother. At Sarah’s Covenant Homes in India, 106 children with special needs face this reality. Each one came from a government orphanage, where they were abandoned due to their challenges. In the government orphanage many were neglected, bruised, malnourished and dying. They still do not know the touch of a mother’s hug, but at SCH they are loved and have become part of a different sort of family.

When I visited SCH last year, I was overwhelmed by the need. One little girl, April, particularly impacted my life. April is autistic, blind and has cerebral palsy. If anyone touched her, she would recoil, having spent so much time neglected, and being so fearful of the world.

April has since transformed into a happy little girl surrounded by people who love her. She no longer fears being held or hugged, and she is even taking her first steps with the aid of a walker. I wish April’s birth mother, who abandoned her, could see her now and know what an impact she’s had on my life.

Twenty-three new children have recently arrived at SCH from the government orphanage. Just like those before them, they have experienced heartache that we can’t imagine.

This is Emma. At 2.5kgs she appeared to have lost her will to live. Emma is gaining weight rapidly, and is scheduled for shunt surgery in the next month.

This is Honor. At the government orphanage, she wore a bandana over her eye, saying she didn’t want to “scare the children”. Honor now has the confidence to walk in her new home without hiding herself, and she, too, is scheduled for surgery in the next year.

Look into the eyes of your children. They are no different than April, Emma, Honor, or the others at SCH. These girls are just as beautiful, just as deserving but they don’t have a mother to kiss their tears away. We need to step up and be that mother for them.

{Video Tutorial} Comic Strip Nail Art!

Hola Nina on the Moon Readers!
I made a this Nail Art Video Tutorial just for you all!

{background}
I came across "comic nails" one day via Cute Polish (check out Cute Polish YouTube channel as it is flooded with nail art tutorials!) & decided it would be fun to try out and guest blogging this week was the perfect opportunity!
Hope you like it & try it out!

What you will Need:

  1. White Nail Polish
  2. Base+Top Coat Nail Polish
  3. The Comic Section of a newspaper
  4. Scissors
  5. Rubbing Alcohol
  6. Q-tips
  7. Nail-polish remover (forgot to mention this in the video-my bad)

Ready?

Here are the 10 Steps to create comic nails!

  1. Paint two coats of WHITE Nail Polish
  2. Cut out your 10 pieces from the comic pages for your nails
  3. pour some rubbing alcohol into a small container (I actually used the cap of the rubbing alcohol as my container).
  4. Dip a strip into the rubbing alcohol & apply to your nail, pressing firmly for about 10-20 seconds.
  5. Peel off & image should have transferred to your nail!
  6. repeat that step on all your nails.
  7. Apply a top coat to seal the image on your nail (this also prevents the ink from the comic from rubbing off).
  8. Now, pour some nail polish remover into a container.
  9. Dip a Q-tip into the nail-polish remover and clean the edges around your nail.
  10. Viola! You have yourself a comic manicure!
Whaaaat? :D
Just like that?
yep!
Just like that! :)

Let me know what you all think!
& if any of you have tried this one before :)

Is there any other Nail Art DIY you suggest to me? I love discovering new ones!

xoxo!

Calaveras y Diablitos

It's me again, Sophia. In honor of the Dia de Los Muertos holiday, I'd like to share with you pictures straight from the national museum of the dead in Aguascalientes, Aguascalientes, Mexico. It's a small state in Mexico where my dad's mom's family was from, or easier put, my great grandma ha.

Me in my teaching clothes. It was a short trip.

We were like, "LOL."

Even if you aren't into the skulls, and the art, and the painted faces of it all, might be nice to take a day to remember your loved ones who have passed on,

Mexico Lindo

Sophia here, guest blogging for my dear friend Nina On The Moon while she is away in Mexico probably having the time of her life. In honour (spelled the Canadian way) of my friend I thought I'd share with you some images of a beautiful surrealist castle that lies in the Mexican state of San Luis Potosi. Created by Edward James, Las Pozas is 80 acres and 5 million dollars of concrete surrealist sculptures along side waterfalls and pools.

Look ma, no safety rails!

Las Pozas is near the village of Xilitla, San Luis Potosí, a seven-hour drive north of Mexico City. In the early 1940s, James went to Los Angeles, and then decided that he "wanted a Garden of Eden set up . . . and I saw that Mexico was far more romantic” -Wiki Wikipedia

Climbing this puppy made my palms sweat and heart rate increase for reals

I had never heard of this place till I saw it in a Mexican magazine. I was amazed and vowed to go one day. I went during Semana Santa, Mexico's holy week/time of the year where the whole country gets vacation. Basically a giant rager.

Twas a fine day for puss in boots to hang from things.

In a concrete jail of emotion

"It's amazing, so amazing, so amazing, so amazing" - Kanye West, Me, and 4 billion other people.

"Should I marry Kokoum? Steady as the beating drum."

Do you have a dream vacation or place you've always wanted to see? Stack that paper and get there! oh yes, Happy Halloween
