When you refuse to reuse it’s our Earth you abuse

I don't know if many of you know this, but I love to recycle. I was taught from a very young to respect our Mother Earth, that we should recycle as much as we can. As years go by, I try to incorporate new ways of recycling into my lifestyle.

One of the ways I've incorporated recycling into my lifestyle, is via recycled fashion, which I began two years ago. Yes, all of my clothes (excluding intimates), is recycled, either purchased at thrift stores or given to me by an aunt who has a closet full of her daughter clothes from the 80s/90s (score!).

I've tried to make my closet (clothes, intimates and shoes) 100% recycled, but I can't wrap my head around wearing someone else's undies and bras. I've also tried to find recycled shoes, but it's rare to find size 9, especially ones that are in good condition. Luckily, my mom has a friend who has "big feet" like me and she hands some down to me once in a while! Yahoo!

Oh yeah, I also put a limit on purchasing shoes, only two a year, if necessary.

I am not going to lie and say that it's easy, cause it's not. It was difficult at first; I'd walk into a store and be tempted to buy something, anything! But I had to fight that urge (or marketing!) to buy new and with time, it got a lot easier. Yes, I still accompany my girlfriends on shopping dates. Hehehe, I've grown fond of browsing and trying on clothes. It gives me ideas of how to alter my previously loved items at home! ;)

Yes, I love cutting stuff up and playing around with my thrifted items. For example, the pin striped button I am wearing in the photos, I added the studs to the collar and cut it to make it a crop top! Check out this post for close ups of the shirt.
How do you try to incorporate recycling into your lifestyle? Do you like thrift shopping?

  11. Kudos to you for making a conscious effort to reuse. In my everyday life I try to be conscious about the items I purchase and of how I dispose of things. I really hate the thought of items sitting in a landfill where they may take hundreds of years to decompose. I am very minimalist and if I don't need something I won't make a purchase. I recycle everything that can be recycled and since I loathe to shop I have to get creative with the clothes I already own. Once again kudos for bringing this up and I really wish there were more individuals out there like you.

  12. Me gusta cuando usas ese peinado :B
Yo también trato de reciclar ropa lo más posible, y agarrar las tijeras de vez en cuando y cortar unas cuantas cosillas jajaja :B.

  13. Great job! I love fashion but not as much as you do. I love furniture and chairs. I recycle/upcycle furniture the way you do clothes. It's so much fun and the challenge, the thrill of the hunt is the best part of all. Thanks for sharing!

  17. You are so pretty! I have always loved your sense of style. I love to thrift I just have a hard time finding clothes that fit right but our local Goodwill is SO awesome! I think I have the same feelings you do. I don't thrift bras, panties or shoes either. It's gross to me.

  18. I'm proud of you - this is absolutely something to be proud of. I as well, was raised by earth loving parents... ;) haha. I've always been a huge proponent of recycling and re-using. It KILLS me to throw away things that could be recycled simply because my city doesn't recycle them. I love your idea of cutting/re-doing your clothes. I'm so not skilled when it comes to cutting/sewing/thread/needles. I have zero ability. I think I should learn, because I too, do not shop. but my reasoning is more because I really don't enjoy shopping at all. Shopping in my closet and pairing new items is as close as I come to new outfits. Sewing 101 might need to be in my future.

  20. Funny you mention the underwear thing cause thats the only retail item I bought while pregnant. All my maternity clothes were thrifted. I found some really great dresses. It was a fun challenge. Can't wait to get back to my regular wardrobe though, ya mero. 4 more weeks or less....

  22. Its like you learn my thoughts! You seem to understand so much approximately this, like you wrote the
e book in it or something. I believe that you just can do with a few percent
to force the message home a bit, however instead of that, this is wonderful blog.
An excellent read. I will definitely be back.
